Do you work in a warehouse or operate forklift trucks? If the answer is yes, then you should acknowledge the need for Safe Systems of Work (SSOW). As an employer or employee, your equipment and duties should be carried out safely, complying with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
Unfortunately, around 1,300 UK employees are seriously injured each year from forklift accidents, due to incorrect handling and defective equipment. Yet, this can be reduced and prevented by implementing thorough examination procedures such as LOLER 98 and PUWER 98, which are law. Here at KS Lift Trucks, we can perform these examinations on all forklift trucks, handling equipment, and lifting equipment, to ensure all personnel are safe. We are CFTS accredited under the Quality Assurance Procedural Code for the conduct of thorough examinations, so you can rely on us for safe apparatus.
LOLER 98
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 examination must be passed in order for forklift trucks to operate. It is a law for all lifting equipment to pass this mandatory inspection. The LOLER examination should be completed every 12 months, or every 6 months if the machine is lifting a person.
PUWER 98
You must ensure that all equipment is safe to use, adhering to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. Equipment should be inspected to evaluate whether it is in a good and safe condition, and the engineer should confirm everything is installed correctly with no defects or deterioration. All components of the forklift will be checked including brakes, steering mechanisms, and the lifting system.
At KS Lift Trucks, forklift safety is a priority. Our thorough examination covers both Loler 98 and Puwer 98 and we offer this examination at a fixed cost. These examinations can be completed on-site by our team of engineers at a time best suited for you.
The British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) has an industry-approved guideline on the thorough examination and safety inspection of forklift trucks. You can find the BITA Guidance Note 28 (GN28) here.
